A+ for marketing efforts with this one! Packaged with a free pair of 3D glasses, the front and back covers, as well as
double-sided, fold-out poster literally leaps out at you. 3D is the
third album from DDrive, a highly underrated classic rock band from
Rochester, NY featuring vocalists/guitarists Phil Naro (Talas, Peter
Criss) and Don Mancuso (The Lou Gramm Band, Black Sheep). Furthermore,
first single ‘Dig Down’ features a special guest appearance from Naro’s
former Talas bandmate and bass god Billy Sheehan. Expect nothing less
than air-tight grooves, super slick polish and enticing hooks as
evidenced on ‘Next Train’ and ‘Chains On You’. The tempo slows with the
ballad ‘Never Had A Chance’, but ‘Down Deep’ revs the musical engine
again. Unfortunately ‘1 to 7 Rock-N-Roll Heaven’ takes a lyrical turn
for the worse with its numerical counting and name dropping of deceased
musicians including: Bonham, Mercury, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson and
Elvis. Rather ironic as it’s the continual repetitive play of artists
such as Led Zeppelin and Queen on classic rock radio that keep deserving
new material, namely the bulk of 3-D, from the FM airwaves.
